Your company has an AI reputation. Have you checked it?

Here's something most founders and marketing leaders haven't done yet: ask an AI about their own company.

Not Google. Not Bing. An AI: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, You.com.

Try it right now. Open any of those tools and type: "What is [your company]? What do they do? How do they compare to [your top competitor]?"

What comes back might surprise you. For many companies, the AI's answer is vague, outdated, or just plain wrong. For some, it cites a competitor instead. For others, it draws a complete blank.

This matters because AI search is rapidly becoming the first impression for buyers, investors, journalists, and partners. I recently needed a particular service related to payments embedded in a website. I didn't Google for an answer. I didn't go onto any reviews site. Instead, I asked an LLM to give me a short list, which yielded a rapid list of reasonable options. How did I decide which vendor to use? I asked the LLM to make the decision for me, complete with rationale behind its recommendation. I didn't think twice. This is how buyers are increasingly making decisions: letting the AI make the call.

The fix isn't technical. It's strategic. AI systems build their understanding of brands from authoritative, independent sources: earned media, expert bylines, analyst coverage, forums, credible third-party content. The brands that invest in this kind of credibility show up accurately. The ones that don't are invisible, or worse, misrepresented.

We call it AI Search Visibility, and it's what we do at Ignite X. More on that in future issues.
